The European Commission on Drugs and Therapeutics has approved a new drug for erectile dysfunction that is to be sold at pharmacies in Ireland.
The decision follows the previous drug, Viagra Connect, being withdrawn in the EU in October 2010.
The drug is one of a series of drugs designed to treat erectile dysfunction in men.
It works by relaxing blood vessels and allowing more blood to flow into the penis during sexual arousal.
The drug will be sold as a tablet or capsule. It will be available in Ireland only by prescription.
The drug’s manufacturer, Pfizer, said the new drug would be available through a pharmacy in Ireland.
“We are pleased to work with the Irish government and the European Commission on this innovative treatment. This decision is important for public health,” said Maryam R. Khas, Minister for Health, Health Disability and Social Affairs of the European Union.
The drug is expected to be available from the start of the next year in pharmacies in Ireland, said the minister.
“The approval of the new drug will allow it to be made available to the public at pharmacies in Ireland as early as September 2010. This is particularly important for those who have been suffering from erectile dysfunction, as it can provide relief and improve their ability to have sex.”
The Irish health ministry has approved the new treatment for the condition. A public consultation will be held on the day of the drug’s launch in Ireland.
In the European Union, the drug has been approved for use in the UK.
“The drug is already available in pharmacies in Ireland,” said the Irish health ministry.
The drug, sold as Viagra Connect, will cost approximately €13.90. It is expected to be sold in pharmacies in Ireland from the beginning of 2010.

VIAGRA CONNECT Web Of linksViagra Connect works by blocking the enzyme PDE5 for making blood clots in the penis. This allows blood to go into the penis when you get sexually excited, helping to get an erection you not sure it will be needed.
If you do not have an erection problem, you will quickly develop one as you get information about this on the patient information leaflet. You will also need to tell the pharmacist that you are taking Viagra Connect.
Viagra Connect produces an erection when you are sexually aroused. This is because PDE5 contains the enzyme PDE5 which allows more blood to go into the penis than is madeavailable. When PDE5is broken, PDE5is not made free in the body, so less blood is needed by blood who are made free by PDE5.
Viagra Connect stays in the body for 4 hours after you take it.
A pharmaceutical company recently announced that the drug Viagra is the only medication that can be sold under the brand name Cialis. The company said it is pleased to launch its own product that uses a different form of Cialis.
